Helpful tips for preparing your house for our visit, and while we are working on your home.

  1. INDIVIDUAL UNIT BALCONIES, PATIOS AND DECKS:
    It is suggested that plants, pottery, and any other articles be removed from ledges. In addition, furniture should be kept away from overhangs. This will minimize any damage or breakage as a result of any falling debris. The potential of large falling debris is low, but precautionary measures are advised.
  2. WINDOWS AND SLIDING DOORS:
    When possible, keep windows and sliding glass doors closed. This will lessen additional dust and dirt particles from entering your home.
  3. DEBRIS FROM ROOF TO TRUCK IN DRIVEWAYS:
    Debris will be placed from the roofing edge to the truck below in the driveway area. The truck may or may no be in the driveway every day, depending on the amount of debris that has to be removed. The roofing truck will not try to interfere with the safe entry and exit of cars. Residents of each building will receive sufficient notice prior to the start date so entry to parking can be gained.
  4. INDIVIDUAL UNIT DRAINS ON BALCONIES, PATIOS, AND/OR DECKS:
    If the building is equipped with a drainage system, the homeowner’s association or each individual owner is to make certain all drains are free of dirt, leaves, etc. Insuring proper drainage will protect your unit, the units below you, and the units to either side of you.
  5. CEILINGS:
    Due to the natural progression of age and/or the original application of the ceiling or wall by the general contractor, cracks are sometimes unavoidable. Therefore, Octagon Roofing Company will in no way be responsible for any cracks to the ceiling or wall areas caused by the tear-off of the old roof and/or the application of the new roof.
  6. OPEN BEAM CEILINGS:
    Homeowner must notify Octagon Roofing Co. of any open beam ceilings to prevent possible nail penetration and ceiling damage. All tenants in units that have open beam ceilings should be aware that dust and debris could land on furniture when the roofing is being torn off. Therefore, it is recommended that you consider covering your furniture in the area that the roof is being worked on. In addition, you should make sure that all pictures and other hanging objects are secured. Cars should be pulled out of garages and all valuable objects covered by the homeowner. There is nothing that can be done about some dust and debris coming through the cracks in the wood. This will not in any way be the responsibility of Octagon Roofing Co.
  7. DRIVEWAYS:
    It must be understood that neither Octagon Roofing Co. nor its roofing distributors will be responsible for any damage done to the driveway area while loading the house with roofing material. We will try the best of our ability to protect the driveway against excessive weight by putting plywood or iron plates under the wheels of the truck to help absorb much of the weight of the truck and material. In addition, we cannot be held responsible for tire marks.
  8. LADDERS IN FRONT OF WINDOWS / SKYLIGHTS / DEBRIS ON GROUND:
    Please be advised that our crew will be going up and down ladders, which may be in front of your window(s). In addition, we may be working around skylights above the bathroom or bedroom areas in your home. We will clean the premises each night to the best of our ability; However, any wind that occurs may blow shingles on the ground. Watch for nails in the driveways. The area will be completely cleaned of roofing debris upon completion of the job.
  9. AIR CONDITIONING UNITS AND ELECTRICAL LINES:
    When lifting the units, we will not be responsible for any damage done to the old electrical wiring and freon lines. If this is the case, we will notify the homeowner and/or property management company, so that the responsible party is notified of any faulty wiring. At that time, an air conditioning company should be contacted to come out and repair the lines.
  10. REPLACEMENT OF WOOD SHEATHING:
    There will be ab additional charge if any damaged plywood, 1x6, or 1x8 sheathing has to be replaced after the roofing material has been taken off. The cost of replacement is generally $6-$10 S.F. to install. Fascia board or other types of wood sheathing will be replaced on a time and material basis.
  11. GALVANIZED METAL EDGING:
    All galvanized metal edging to be installed is not pre-painted by the manufacturer. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to paint after the work has been completed, unless otherwise agreed upon with Octagon Roofing Co. in writing prior to roof installation.
